I was born in Sao Paulo Brazil in 1973. Among other things, I studied robotics in tech school and was a maintenance supervisor at a small manufacturing facility until I decided to come to America in the year 2000.
Arriving in Massachusetts in June, I worked at a carwash for about a month, then decided to acquire a Commercial Driver’s License. After criss-crossing 33 states in just two months, I opted to take a regional driving job so I could attend school to learn English. Seeing my education as a critical investment, I enrolled in a yearlong English-as-a-Second-Language course at Harvard University.
In 2004 and living the American dream, I bought my current home: a condo in Hopkinton, MA. It needed some renovations, which I did after work and on weekends. Once the construction was complete and after several compliments from friends and family on my craftsmanship, I followed in my cousin’s steps and opened a window treatment installation company. Originally intended as a part time enterprise so that I could keep my trucking job, Shades IN Place was born in June, 2006.
Cognizant of my lack of formal experience in the trade, I realized that I should pursue as much education as possible. My quest for increased knowledge led me all over the country; acquiring certifications and training from manufacturers like Hunter Douglas and Norman Shutters. I also attended the Custom Home Furnishing Academy.
By 2007, I abandoned my trucking career to dedicate 100% of the time to my company. Two years later, the business was growing exponentially which “forced” me to move my company out of the house and into a commercial space. Hence the “The Shades IN Place Studio” came to life.
To date, I have developed an impeccable reputation for excellence in the industry, and I am regularly recognized by several industry leaders across the country. I hold several certifications for leading product lines such as Hunter Douglas, Somfy, Lutron and Norman Shutters, including their proprietary installation techniques.
I am also a regular featured author for trade publications such as WCN Magazine and Drapery & Design Magazine where I write about window treatment installations techniques and business topics. Shades IN Place (and myself) are featured regularly in several trade-related articles and highlighted on the covers of different trade magazines.
In March,2014 I created a private group on Facebook called Free Speech Window Covering Pros where dealers and installers from all over the country (currently 325 members) constantly share information , advice and suggestions to enhance our practices as business owners and professionals.
On a personal note I have been married to Ana since August,2012 and we love tent camping while on vacation. On weekends our favorite pastime is driving on unknown back roads that may lead to some amazing scenery. One thing no one knows about me: I fell 30 feet from a roof in 1997 and I have drowned twice (1980 and 1995). Like a cat, I have nine lives too.
