As the holiday season wraps its cozy arms around us, I wanted to take a moment to share a little reflection on the whirlwind (literally) that was 2024. This year, two hurricanes decided to make my life their personal piñata, flooding our home, taking out power for days, and leaving a trail of soggy chaos.

Finding Gratitude in Life’s Hurricanes

But guess what? As crazy as it sounds, those hurricanes turned out to be the best thing that happened to me this year.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Has he been out in the Florida sun too long?” But hear me out—those storms blew away more than just roof shingles; they also cleared my mind and priorities.

Here’s why I’m actually *grateful* for those hurricanes:

1. Focus on What Matters: When you’re bailing water out of your living room, you realize what’s truly important—and it’s not running around like a caffeinated squirrel. The storms helped me cut out the noise and focus on the things that really count.

2. Bye-bye Energy Vampires: I said goodbye to extra activities and side hustles that were draining my energy faster than a faulty motorized shade. Less clutter, more clarity.

3. Travel While We Can: The hurricanes were a wake-up call to pack a suitcase and see the world while we’re still mobile and spry. Turks and Caicos, here we come (again)!

4. Finish What We Started: We finally rolled up our sleeves and worked on completing our home—not just for functionality but to truly enjoy it.

And through it all, I’ve been overwhelmed with gratitude for my incredible team, who held down the fort while I navigated this stormy chapter, and for clients like you, who showed patience and kindness when we needed it most.

So as we deck the halls and toast to the New Year, I’m raising my glass (of margarita, of course) to the storms that helped me slow down, refocus, and appreciate the beauty in life’s imperfections.

From all of us at Shades In Place, we wish you a Merry Christmas filled with love, laughter and a lot of Brazilian zest.

May 2025 bring you sunny days, smooth sailing, and a home as cozy as a freshly installed motorized shade.

P.S. Life’s too short not to laugh, love, and install great window coverings. Let me know if I can help with that last one.
