Hello Friends!

Ever had one of those months that felt like a year? Try four in a row! Since the first hurricane last September, life has been nonstop.

Living in a construction zone is a survival challenge. If you think a job site is messy, try eating dinner in one! I’ve gained a whole new level of respect for anyone who’s remodeled a home and still managed to function like a normal human being.

As if that weren’t enough, I had to part ways with a contractor who apparently thought “basic professionalism” was optional. Spoiler alert: it’s not! If there’s one thing I’ve learned from both renovations and window treatments, it’s that good craftsmanship and reliability matter.

This experience actually inspired me to take action—I’m now studying for my Florida contractor’s license. Nothing like firsthand renovation struggles to push you into becoming part of the solution!

Amid the chaos, I took a much-needed breather in Brazil. Since I couldn’t make it for Christmas, a little mom time, home-cooked meals, and Brazilian sunshine did wonders for my soul.

Meanwhile, Ana and I braved the Boston cold for the holidays—mostly to remind ourselves why we left. It took exactly 30 seconds outside to confirm that we’re officially warm-weather people now.

Through it all, I’ve learned that even the most overwhelming challenges come with valuable lessons (and sometimes an upgraded kitchen we didn’t know I needed).

The Home Stretch

The painter is adding his final touches, and Ana is counting the days until the great closet reunion of 2025. I, for one, can’t wait to rediscover outfits I forgot I owned.

While I’ve been playing construction site supervisor, my amazing team has been delivering top-notch work. We’re thrilled to announce we’re expanding our offerings to include outdoor shades, awnings, and hurricane shutters—because Florida homes deserve both beauty and protection. Pairing this with my contractor’s license in the works, Shades In Place is stepping into an exciting new chapter!

So whether you need to enhance your indoor comfort, shield your outdoor spaces, or prepare for hurricane season, we’re here to help—with plenty of hard-earned wisdom to share.

Thanks for sticking with me through this wild ride. If you or a friend need help dressing your naked windows, check out our latest blog—you’ll know exactly who to call!
