About Roger
I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and immigrated to the United States in 2000, settling in Boston, Massachusetts. My early years were filled with diverse jobs – from car washing to pizza delivery and truck driving. To improve my English skills, I took ESL classes at Harvard University.
In 2004, I bought and renovated a condo in Hopkinton, MA. Two years later, a chance conversation with my cousin introduced me to the window covering installation industry. Intrigued, I initially worked part-time in the field before starting my own company, Shades In Place, Inc.
Over the next 18 years, I grew my business, obtaining certifications and becoming a dealer for national brands. In 2023, my wife and I moved to Tampa, Florida, to open a second location for our company. We’re excited about this new chapter and the opportunities it brings.
Shades In Place, Inc. specializes in premium window coverings for both residential and commercial clients. Our comprehensive range of solutions includes interior options such as blinds, shades, shutters, and draperies, as well as exterior products like retractable patio shades and retractable awnings.
We’ve built our reputation on two key strengths: our expertise in automation and remote-controlled shades, and our commitment to exceptional customer service, as evidenced by over 800 five-star reviews online.
My journey from Brazilian immigrant to business owner in the U.S. has been marked by hard work, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
Recognizing the lack of formal education in window treatment installation, I founded Trading Up Consulting in 2020. This initiative allows me to share my knowledge and expertise with industry professionals and newcomers alike, giving back to the field I am passionate about.
In 2022, I received the Barry M. Portnoy Immigrant Entrepreneur Award from The Immigrant Learning Center in Malden, MA for Outstanding Business Growth.
