Meet Roger Magalhaes

Roger Magalhaes

About Me:

I was born in Sao Paulo Brazil in 1973. Among other things, I studied robotics in tech school and was a maintenance supervisor at a small manufacturing facility until I decided to come to America in the year 2000.

In 2004 and living the American dream, I bought my current home: a condo in Hopkinton, MA. It needed some renovations, which I did after work and on weekends. Once the construction was complete  I opened a window treatment installation company: Shades IN Place was born in June, 2006.

Cognizant of my lack of formal experience in the trade, I realized that I should pursue as much education as possible acquiring certifications and training from manufacturers like Hunter Douglas and Norman Shutters. I also attended the  Custom Home Furnishing Academy .

By 2009, the business “forced” me to move my company out of the house and into a commercial space. Hence the “The Shades IN Place Studio” came to life.

I am also a regular featured author for trade publications such as WCN Magazine and Drapery & Design Magazine where I write about window treatment installations techniques and business topics. For a full bio, click here

In March, 2014 I created a private group on Facebook called Free Speech Window Covering Pros where dealers and installers from all over the country (currently 325 members) constantly share information , advice and suggestions to enhance our practices as business owners and professionals.

On a personal note I have been married to Ana since August,2012 and we love tent camping while on vacation. One thing no one knows about me: I fell 30 feet from a roof in 1997 and I have drowned twice (1980 and 1995). Like a cat, I have nine lives too.
